Ghana-born Caribbean filmmaker Yao Ramesar was honoured as the Caribbean’s first Laureate in Arts and Letters (2006). His Caribbeing® cinema methodologies are explored in publications, including Being, Consciousness and Time: Phenomenology and the Videos of Robert Yao Ramesar, a book on his work by Gabrielle Hezekiah; and The Routledge Companion To World Cinema, in the context of visionary cinema.
His films are reviewed in The New York Times, Hollywood Reporter, Filmmaker Magazine, AOL Time Warner, The Washington Post, Variety, the BBC etc.
Ramesar’s films have screened in over 150 countries, Sistagod® premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival 2006, and winning The Grand Prix for Best Feature at the ARTODOCS International Film Festival in Russia in 2014.
His most recent feature Fortune For All has received 40 international film festival selections, receiving awards in the Caribbean, Europe and North America.
He is a former director and Chair of Trinidad and Tobago Film Company (FilmTT) and is Senior Lecturer and former Coordinator of the UWI Film Degree Programme, St. Augustine, Trinidad.
